Rooted Stillness
Forest Therapy
Pause, rest and reset with nature
What is Forest Therapy?
Forest therapy offers participants a deep sensory guided immersion into nature.
Engaging in this slow paced activity with soft fascination allows your mind to pause, rest, reset and have a break from the stressors of everyday life.
Forest Therapy known as Shinrin Yoku was founded in the 1980s in Japan as a Government Initiative to combat the health consequences of those living in Japan in an increasingly urban environment. Since then the growing scientific evidence of the benefits of engaging with nature has continued to grow!
Evidence shows engaging in forest therapy can benefit both your physical and mental health.
Trees also release amazing compounds called Phytonicides. These natural organic compounds allow the tree to protect itself against harmful bacteria and fungi. When humans breath in these compounds we can obtain benefits too including:
Reduced blood pressure
Boosted Natural Killer Cells - a type of white blood cell which is part of your immune system which can help fight infections, prevent inflammation and cancer. These effects can last up to 30 days after one session!
Reduced stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline - Cortisol is often chronically raised due to stressors of modern day. Forest Therapy rebalances the Autonomic Nervous System through stress reduction theory reducing a chronically activated sympathetic drive.
Can improve sleep.
Other benefits shown by spending time in the forest includes
Reduction in pro inflammatory molecules in the body which can contribute to various chronic illnesses.
Reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
Improve overall well being
Foster a deeper connection with nature
Gain connection with others
Restoration of cognitive attentional capacity to allow us to process thoughts and think clearer about things bothering us.
Forest therapy encourages the feeling of Yugen - slowing down to find awe and beauty in the everyday world around us.
Evidence shows that benefits are maximised when participants spend at least 2 hours in a forest area.
There is no right or wrong way of taking part in Forest therapy. There are no goals or set expectations. Let the trees be your guide and provide you with the experience that you need to switch off from everyday.

Forest Therapy Sessions
-
All sessions last for 2 hours
-
No equipment is needed. I only ask you dress for the weather.
-
Yes sessions can be held all year. Only if the weather is particularly stormy or very heavy rain, would a session be cancelled. Rain can provide a wonderful sensory session!
-
As long as you have access to a space in nature Forest Therapy sessions can be held anywhere.
-
I would offer no more than 10 people in a group. One to one sessions are available. Please contact me directly to book.
-
Of course! Please contact me to discuss.
-
You can attend as many sessions as you like. Each one is slightly different and will be influenced by many factors including the weather. The main aim is to develop a regular practice engaging with nature without a clear focus or goal on a regular basis to gain the maximum physical and cognitive benefits. Some may need the structure of regular sessions others may not.
-
I will be hosting events in a variety of green spaces. Check my upcoming sessions page for more information.

Hi, I’m Tara Lamb and i live in Worcestershire. I have been working in NHS Mental Health Services since 2011. Although i’m aware medication and talking therapy can be of significant benefit to improve mental health, increasing amounts of evidence suggest embracing a deeper connection with nature can have a profound effect on a person's physical and mental health. Through my own battles with anxiety, stress and burnout i have found solace from connecting with nature. One of my passions has been empowering others to find their connection with nature. I completed Forest Therapy Practitioner Training in March 2026, a 16 week programme which is approved by the Complementary Medical Association. I am excited to host sessions with many different people in a variety of settings to promote Nature as a true intervention for positive well being.
When not working i love Birdwatching, walking, camping, travelling to new parts of the UK, Yoga, Pilates and running.
